Enjoy meandering through the eclectic collection of galleries, boutiques, and studios as the afternoon wanes into evening and evening fades into night. Indulge at one of the cafés along the way. You’ll find antiques, jewelry, out-of-the-ordinary gift items, photography, a hair salon, skin care products, and services such as a graphic design and financial planning. There is glass art, fiber art, clay art, sculpture art, and more to tickle your fancy.
The Beginning of Towles Court
When the luster of downtown Sarasota began to fade, it became something of an eyesore and was headed for demolition. Luckily, in 1983, businessman N. J. Olivieri began purchasing the ramshackle houses with a plan in mind. He wanted to restore the houses and create a neighborhood along the lines of Colonial Williamsburg. But thanks to the intervention of a friend, he changed his direction in the early ’90s. The result was the quaint collection of studios and boutiques now known as Towles Court Artist Colony.
Before renovations had even begun, Mr. Olivieri had heard from a number of artists around the country who wholeheartedly endorsed his plan and asked for a niche there when it was time. This encouragement gave him the incentive he needed to let his first plan go and take hold. By the end of 1995, the first artist had signed a lease for one of the cottages. New life had come to the neighborhood. Today, this cluster of cozy cottages houses a wide variety of art forms and gifted artists whose creative juices flow freely in the relaxed atmosphere.
Unwind and Appreciate the Art
As you explore each studio, boutique, or gallery, you will find yourself letting go of the stress of the day. Your soul will be restored as you leave behind your cares and embrace the peace and joy that permeates each work of art. Feed your body as well as your spirit in one of the several cafés or restaurants that create art on the plate rather than on the canvas. You’ll be glad you came!
Leave a little early for the Art Walk so you have time to stop by Venice Toyota and check out the beautiful works of automotive art on our lot in Venice, Florida.
