Ring in 2018 with the Sarasota NYE Pineapple Drop

Pineapple Drop 2018

Every town has its traditions. Oftentimes, New Year’s Eve is a time for those traditions to really show the character of the town and its community. Georgia has the Peach Drop, New York has the famous BallDrop, and there’s even a town in Alabama that does a Peanut Drop. But none of those celebrations can compare to Sarasota’s famous New Year’s Eve Pineapple Drop.

Read on to find out the details on this year’s Pineapple Drop and how to make it the best New Year’s yet.

The 2017–2018 Pineapple Drop

If you’re looking for a fantastically fun, memorable, and family-friendly event this New Year’s Eve, then look no further than the Sarasota Pineapple Drop. Each year, the city puts on this event to celebrate the new year and provide a way to bring residents together to see the old year off in style.

This FREE event takes place at Main Street and Lemon Avenue in Downtown Sarasota, starting at 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 and lasting until 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2018. At the event, there will be amusement rides, food and beer concessions, live music, and the pineapple drop at midnight. To top it all off, the drop will be followed by an unforgettable firework show on the Sarasota Bay. If you think this sounds like a great way to spend NYE, you’re not alone. The event attracts between 20,000 and 25,000 Floridians annually.

The event, excluding fireworks, is brought to you by the Sarasota Downtown Merchants Association (SDMA).

Adding Resolutions to the Mix

While there will be plenty of merriment taking place at the Pineapple Drop, one thing you don’t want to forget about is setting New Year’s resolutions. While such a practice has earned a bit of infamy for its low follow-through rate, there is still something to be said about starting the new year out with clear goals and intentions.

Oftentimes, the mistake people make is trying to change too much, too soon. One of the best principles to remember is that consistency starts small. For example, if your resolution is to get in shape, then don’t sign up for a 7-day-a-week gym schedule when you work a full-time job and take care of a family, too. That’s a recipe for failure. Instead, make getting into shape your long-term goal for the year, and start with a bite-sized chunk for January. Maybe that means cutting out soda or only eating fast food once per week. That way, you’ll start building healthy habits that can snowball into an overall healthier lifestyle, making your goal much more achievable by the end of the year.
