Get In The Halloween Spirit By Visiting These Haunted Venice Spots

Everyone loves a good ghost story, and there’s no better time of year than this one to uncover a skeleton or two lurking in the closets of your own hometown. Like any place worth its salt, Venice and the surrounding areas are filled with haunts and the intriguing folklore that goes along with them. For your scary good fun, here are just a few of the region’s spookiest locales.

Pelican Alley Restaurant, Nokomis

This popular waterside restaurant is said to be haunted by the spirit of a former owner. Accounts of unexplained occurrences include opening and closing doors and objects moving of their own accord. Stop in for a meal at Pelican Alley and you might end up getting more than just a good seafood meal.

Belle Haven Inn, Sarasota

Historic Belle Haven Inn dates to the late 1800s and is supposedly chock-full of otherworldly (and non-paying) guests. Some of the reported sightings have included orbs and full-body images. And camera flashes routinely fail during investigations of the premises.

The Hermitage House, Englewood

This circa-1900s home, located within a former nudist colony and what is now an artist retreat, is rumored to be haunted by the mother of the original builder, a Swedish immigrant. The mother was a healer whose mystical holy lead helped her do her work. Her death and burial far away on the mainland seem not to have kept her spirit from returning to The Hermitage, where she can sometimes be glimpsed searching the home for her sacred tool.

Ringling Towers, Nokomis

While this historic hotel is no longer standing (it was demolished in 1998), it deserves a place on this list because of the years’ worth of chills it provided. Many a ghost hunter came here hoping to get a glimpse of the supernatural presence so many swore resided in Ringling Towers.
